The 4th Annual Swim Around Keppel 2022 (SAK2022) will be held on Great Keppel Island on Saturday & Sunday July 23-24
Saturday, July 23rd. 5km swim around The Middle Island. start ~@10:30am. 1km and shorter distances, as well as, waterpolo tournament ~@2:00pm
A main & unique event, SAK2022 features a circumnavigation-style island swim route in tropical waters and covers a total distance of 20km – one of Australia’s longest swimming marathons will take place Sunday, July 24th. ~@9:15am start
SAK2022 offers a few different swim categories – Individual & Tandem Swim for the 5km and 20km events and Team Relay for the 20km (teams of 3 to 5 swimmers, mixed genders are welcome). Persons aged 14 years and over on the 24rd of July 2022 are eligible to register for the Individual & Tandem 20km SAK2022 event. Persons aged 12 years and over on the 23rd of July 2022 are eligible to register for the team/relay 20km swim, as well as, 5km and shorted distances on Saturday, the 23rd.
To enter the Individual (20km) event, a person must have previous open water swimming experience and complete an official open water 10km race under 4 hours. For more information please check Event Info.
Due to the nature of this event, all individual swimmers must be accompanied by an assisting vessel. Teams MUST be accompanied by a motorised support boat. No motorised vessel is required for an individual swimmer and no SUPs are allowed, unless a swimmer has a motorised support vessel. For more information please check Event Info.
KISA boats will be present and stationary every ~1 km throughout the course, and numerous KISA PWCs will be navigating. Course markers/buoys might be used.
Individual swimmers and teams will commence at the same time, ~9:15am at The Spit on Sunday, 24th July and proceed in (surprised) direction around the island to coincide with tidal movement. The swim will officially finish at 5pm.The Presentation and After Party will be held at the GKI Hideaway Island Bar & Bistro at 6:00pm. Late boat departure on the day is available, but…why would you want to leave..?
