The purpose of this training is to provide our middle school athletes with opportunities to become better all-around athletes by improving their speed, quickness, acceleration, and strength through age-appropriate drills and resistance training. We desire to develop self-confidence, grit, determination and perseverance in our athletes as we glorify God through hard work that results in physical and emotional development. Training sessions are open to Holland Christian and Zeeland Christian Middle School students and will take place at Holland Christian High School. Athletes can be dropped off between 4:50 and 5:00 at door E where they will enter and access the small gym. Pickup will take place promptly at 6:15 (again by door E). Training sessions are on Mondays and Wednesdays from January 10 - March 16 (20 total sessions). Holland Christian's Strength & Conditioning Coach, Chris Kuipers, will design age-appropriate workouts. Former HC students Ben Slenk, Blake Gebben and Cam Stahl will run the training sessions. Speed and agility training will include the use of training tools such as agility ladders, box jumps, resistance bands, medicine balls, hurdles and cones to develop speed, quickness, strength, reaction time and acceleration in fun and exciting ways. Resistance training will take place in the high school weight room where we will engage in age-appropriate resistance training that will include body-weight resistance as well as weighted resistance (dumbells/barbells) where appropriate. Athletes will be instructed on how to perform lifts such as the squat, clean, bench press and dead lift with light resistance. Safety will be a major point of emphasis and weights will be light with more repetition so athletes can learn proper form. Athletes should wear normal apparel (shorts, t-shirts and tennis shoes) and bring a water bottle. In order to provide the best experience for attendees, this training opportunity is limited to the first 50 registrants.
