About this event
This class is for brand new scullers (two oars per person) who may be entirely new to the sport of rowing or existing sweep rowers trying something new. This class will focus on sculling, where everyone holds two oars (as opposed to sweep where everyone holds one oar). This class will teach you the basics of the rowing stroke beginning on the rowing machines. You'll learn the basics about the equipment and terminology and start rowing on the water in wide, flat bottom boats and progress to narrower racing type boats. The class may also utilize 2 or 4 person sculling boats based on the needs/desires of the class and/or conditions. Completion of this class is required to move to the next level in sculling, Intermediate sculling. OR you can try your hand at sweep by taking a learn-to-row sweep class. From college students to retirees, beginners to the very experienced, men and women of all ages and physical abilities can participate in Riverfront Recapture classes for beginning, intermediate and experienced rowers. Classes are offered in both large, team boats (sweep rowing) and smaller, individual boats (sculling) in spring, summer, and fall, and during the winter we train indoors. Financial assistance may be available to adult rowers. To inquire, contact Jonathan Near by email at jnear@riverfront.org.
