Description

This activity is closed to further registration.

When everyone thinks of Maryland they immediate think crabs, but what about the sweet side of our beautiful state. Join us to learn how to make Chef Carolyn Crow's take on two famous Maryland desserts, Berger cookies and mini Smith Island cakes.

Berger cookies, an iconic sweet treat baked in Baltimore, are cakey treats with a rich chocolate ganache and are similar to black and whites or half moon cookies. You can buy Berger cookies in the grocery store, but in this class you will learn a unique take on this delicious and beloved cookie.

Smith Island cakes, named for an island in the Chesapeake Bay, have been made since the 1800s and include many layers of very thin yellow cake filled with chocolate frosting. The Maryland legislature declared the Smith Island Cake as the State dessert in 2008.

Get ready to feel Maryland proud as you don an apron to learn these staples of the Old Line State!

This is an in-person hands-on class. Participants will work with the chef instructor in our kitchen to prepare the recipes listed in the class description. Everyone will then get to enjoy these recipes together.

No refunds will be granted for Let’s Cook@Casey programs. A one-time registration transfer is available to a Let’s Cook@Casey class of equal value if the exchange request is submitted in writing to LetsCook@gaithersburgmd.gov no less than 48 hours before the scheduled program time.
