About this event
Students will study music theory and apply these principles to composing their own compositions. An understanding of music theory gives the musician the foundational tools and skills needed to succeed in the performance of the instrument of their choice, as well as in vocals. This course is designed to introduce basic theory in a fun and informative way to help each student understand each new concept thoroughly. A review of basic theory fundamentals will be followed by more in depth theory principles. Composition is interspersed throughout the course in progression with theory knowledge. Ear Training is also included in the course. A piano or keyboard is recommended for this class. Students will need access to Noteflight or a similar music notation program. Music Theory and Composition II is a continuation of this course and strongly recommended. Keyboard: A piano keyboard (any type) is recommended. Because the theory text uses the keyboard as an example for teaching concepts, access to a keyboard is important. Virtual keyboards are available online if the student does not have access to an actual keyboard.
