Pastel Portrait Power
Ann Arbor Art Center 117 W. Liberty St. Ann Arbor, MI 48104 Organized by A2ACAbout this event
Description
We're sorry, but this program is over. The last meeting was Saturday, December 3, 2022.
Review the elements of art and learn three skills for creating a pastel portrait from a photo through placement, value and color. Increase your confidence through step-by-step Artistic Seeing, Building Skills and Creating art. Use a grid for the contour under-drawing and identify values to create a 9”X12” portrait. Fine-tune your artistic powers for starting and finishing pastel portraits on your own!
This class is a great fit for both beginners and those with previous drawing experience. All skill levels are welcome!
All participants must be 18 or older.
All materials are provided. You are welcome, but not required, to bring the following:
- Heads and shoulders reference photos will be available, or you may bring your own image to these specifications: 8"x12” color copy (5”L head min. size); clear details, contrast, shadows. Avoid baby photos.
- Your choice of gray/tan/other toned pastel paper (Canson Mi-Teintes, Fabriano, etc.) -11” X 14” min.
- Your preferred pastel set.
- A face mask. Mask-wearing is highly recommended to avoid breathing in pastel dust.
Lunch Break Students will take a 45 minute lunch break and should plan to bring a lunch to eat in the classroom or find a quick bite downtown. Please keep in mind that picking up food can take longer than one anticipates. Class will resume promptly at the end of the 45-minute break.
