Transformative Songcraft Workshop with CB Smith

Caffe Lena • 47 Phila St Saratoga SpringsNY  12866 Organized by Caffe Lena School of Music

About this event

In this interactive four-hour course we’ll look at how the best songs celebrate resilience, reinvention and recovery, and help us process pain, grief and trauma. Together we’ll work on building skills to effectively create meaningful lyrics, supported by thoughtful instrumentation and expressive vocals. Students will be encouraged to share their own material for group discussion. “C.B. Smith’s songs ring true. There’s no higher compliment as far as I am concerned.” – Mary Gauthier, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, author of Saved by a Song. “A gem…from the introspective title track…to the dark and delicious North Country Blues, Smith hits home and hits hard.” – David Malachowski, Daily Freeman, Kingston, NY ”Something ‘Bout a Train does in three minutes what most films can’t accomplish in two hours in evoking the romance of rail travel.” – Crispin Kott, Roll Magazine “C.B. Smith’s songs ring with authenticity and tenderness, have a unique clarity and focus, and rock with a poetic lyricism.” – Woodstock Times C.B. Smith studied Advanced Songwriting at The New School in NYC with Hugh Prestwood, as well as additional studies with Steve Earle, Mary Gauthier, Richard Thompson and Jimmy Webb. He has written dozens of songs steeped in folk traditions, reflecting his love of bluegrass, blues, folk-rock and other styles. From 2010-2022 he led the Americana band C.B. Smith & the Lucky Devils. C.B. has released two albums of original material, with a third album of original songs due out in 2025.
