Description
All class dates and times are required. Make ups for missed class times will not be an option.
This class teaches lifeguarding skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies, which is required to be a City of Phoenix lifeguard.
Participants will be certified for 1 year in StarGuard Elite and American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) basic first aid and CPR/AED training.
According to the certifying agency, StarGuard Elite, this certification is only good for employment with the City of Phoenix for those who are 15 years old. Once the person becomes 16 years old, they can request a copy of their certificate.
On the first day of class (orientation/skills check) participants will be tested on the following prerequisite skills: Please make sure you have a suit and towel.
•300 yards of continuous swimming using freestyle or breaststroke
•Tread water for one minute without using hands.
•10-pound brick retrieval in 12 feet of water.
A full refund will be given for anyone not able to pass the prerequisites.
All candidates will be required to complete approximately 8 hours of on-line blended learning. Participants will receive and email from StarGuard Elite with the access to the on-line portion of the class.
Majority of all class dates will be conducted in the water. Bathing suits, towels, snacks, water, goggles and a writing utensil. All items recommended to bring to each class. The pool will be heated.
