Description
This course is designed to provide qualified participants with the certifications required for employment as a lifeguard. Upon completion, graduates will receive American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguard Training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer (CPR-PRO); Emergency Medical Response; Automated External Defibrillation (AED); and Oxygen Administration for the Professional. Course meetings include Monday, Wednesday evenings 6-9pm, AND Saturday mornings 7-11am. Prerequisite aquatic skills (300 yd swim, surface dive with brick retrieval in 1min 40sec and treading water for two minutes with hands in armpits) must be demonstrated prior to registration; Testing provided free of charge, please call the William A. Wagner Aquatic Center to sign up for a swim test, 760-435-5370. Please note that the first two weeks is the Lifeguarding portion which is a Red Cross Blended Learning course. PRIOR to attending the first meeting date, a 23 hour online lesson portion must be completed. You will need to email oceansidelifeguardtraining@gmail.com once you are registered to confirm your email address so that we may create a Red Cross account for you. The last three weeks is the Emergency Medical Response portion and is all in person with no online lesson. There will be Academy on Jan 20th Martin Luther King Jr Day.
Prerequisite test must be completed prior to registration. The course instruction is free, however participants are responsible for Red Cross certification fees at the completion of each course.
