Sew Fun Adult 101 offers an introduction to operating the sewing machine, focusing on safe and effective use of the machine including winding the bobbin, threading the machine and executing straight and zig-zag stitches to sew seams on cloth. Over the course of four weeks, students will become familiar with essential sewing machine parts and practice safe use of the machine by completing a simple project (such as a zippered pouch, tote bag, or accessory) along with creating practice samples to create a sewing journal to refer to after course is over. This course will be conducted by Artists and sewing instructors Sheila Moore and founder of REACH, Alice Brinkman. If you have a working sewing machine at home, you are encouraged to bring it to use at class. If not, we have sewing machines for you to use. Participants in Sew Fun course may attend a free, twice-a-month Open Sewing Lab drop-in where participants can bring in their own sewing projects to work on, get help with troubleshooting, and sewing ideas from sewing experts! If you are registering someone ages 18 or younger and are interested in a scholarship, please contact us at 517-999-3643 or info@reachstudioart.org.
