Homeowners can help control local flooding, filter pollutants that contribute to downstream water pollution and help recharge groundwater by reducing impervious surface and capturing stormwater on their property. This can be done even if an expansion is planned. We will discuss the following options: rain gardens, other bioretention, rain barrels, cisterns, permeable pavements, and infiltration trenches.
