*This class meets the prerequisite to become a CERA pottery studio member.*Instructor: Melinda Randall
All skill levels welcomed.
Description: This is an introduction to throwing on the wheel and includes how to wedge, center, shape, trim, attach a handle, how to use an extruder, finish, reclaim clay, prepare your work to be bisque fired and glaze your work. You will also be shown other general processes and procedures to working in the pottery studio.
The class projects include a mug and 2 bowls.
Bring to class: A 25 lb bag of cone 6 clay, a needle tool, small sponge, trimming tools, wire cutter, wood modeling tool, wood rib, flexible rubber rib and 2 gallon plastic bucket with lid to reclaim clay. Suggestion: Bring an apron and a towel or wear clothes you don't mind getting muddy. A basic pottery tool kit ($12) and a 25 lb bag of cone 6 clay ($18) may be purchased from the instructor at the first class or bring your own.
IMPORTANT: After the 6 week class, your clay creations will need to fire in the kiln and will be ready to pick up in 4 - 7 days. Please claim your work within 14 days by scheduling a time for pick up with the instructor. Pottery left on the Project Pick-Up shelf for longer than 14 days is subject to removal to make space for other students' work.
