Description
Beginning Faceting 101: Instructor: Robert Reed
Faceting is a 8 week class which introduces the theory and techniques of faceting gemstones. General background information includes brief history, material selection, dopping, transferring, and lessons learned. During the course, students will complete the traditional Standard Round Brilliant cut in quartz or synthetic glass/quartz for a 6 to 10 mm finished stone. All materials will be supplied, but the student may bring their own quartz or glass cutting material if desired.
The Cowtown Gem Mineral & Glass activity has 3 mast style faceting machines that will be used for instruction, which limits the class size to 3 students. It is important to commit to attendance because the class will end after 8 sessions. The faceting laps used during instruction are reserved for teaching only. The machines themselves are available to club members completing at least the Beginning Faceting 101 class or equivalent, but the user is responsible for providing their own laps. Two additional Lap machines will be provided on loan to the club for this class.
