Adult Intermediate-Improving Skills and Swimming Strokes
Adult Intermediate seeks to improve participants' proficiency in basic aquatic skills and the six basic swimming strokes. These skills are done in the deep end.
The Intermediated course includes skills such as:
- Enter water by stepping or jumping from the side (in shoulder-deep water)
- Rotary breathing (at least 15 times)
- Swim underwater 3 to 5 body lengths
- Feetfirst surface dive (submerging completely)
- Tuck surface dive (submerging completely)
- Pike Surface dive (submerging completely)
- Tread water using 2 different kicks (modified scissors, modified breaststroke or rotary for at least 5 minutes)
- Tread water, using only legs ( for at least 2 minutes)
- Front crawl (at least 50 yards
- Breaststroke (at least 50 yards)
- Optional: Butterfly (at least 25 yards)
- Elementary Backstroke (at least 50 yards)
- Back crawl (at least 25 yards)
- Side stroke (at least 25 yards)
- Front crawl open turn
- Back crawl open turn
- Front flip turn
- Backstroke flip turn
Parents and guardians must stay off the pool deck during swim lessons and not attempt to coach their swimmer based on what they observe during lessons. All are expected to observe sessions from the elevated spectator area, keeping the pool deck clear of non-participants. Please note that we do not allow any person to climb on or through the railings. Accessibility accommodations should be requested through the front desk and discussed with the instructor as well.
For safety reasons, wet bodies are not allowed in the spectator area. Swimmers may dry off completely on deck or in a locker room before being seated in the spectator area.

Non-Sufficient Fund (NSF) Check Policy: An NSF check processing fee will be imposed for all returned checks and could result in refusal of future participation.
