Description
The Cumberland Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited, is offering Beginner and Advanced Fly-Tying Classes for all ages and genders. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Children under 10 are free with a registered adult. Call the office if this scenario describes you.Students in the Beginner class will learn a different basic tying technique each week. The course will have a high ratio of mentors to students. Each week’s patterns will build on skills learned during the previous weeks. Materials and hooks for all fly patterns will be provided. The class textbook will include a basic fly-tying introduction primer, recipes for the patterns tied in class, and a listing of local resources. Tool kits including a tying vice and basic fly-tying tools are available for loan during the course, so buying tools is not required to take the class.
The Experienced class is for tyers who have taken the Beginner's class or who already have a basic understanding of fly tying. This is an opportunity for us to learn special tips and share our experience while tying a variety of flies together. The class will feature a new experienced guest fly tier each week sharing their favorite patterns. Students will need to bring their own vise and tools to class, as well as basic materials and hooks. Specialty materials for each pattern will be provided. Students will receive a binder listing each week’s guest tier, the fly patterns they will demonstrate with the pattern recipes specifying materials needed to tie the patterns.
