This course explores artistic genres chronologically, building foundational knowledge of art history while connecting to contemporary practices. Due to the extensive timeline of art history, the course will be divided into three sections: Introduction to Art History, Post-Renaissance and Modernism, and Contemporary Art. Through lectures, readings, discussions, and video essays, this course is designed for art enthusiasts of any age who want to deepen their understanding of how art reflects culture and the human condition across various timelines.
Curriculum Outline:
Section 1: Introduction to Art HistoryPrehistoric, Ancient Art, Medieval Art, Renaissance Art, Baroque Art
Section 2: Post-Renaissance and ModernismImpressionism, Post-Post Impressionism, Cubism, Dada, Surrealism
Section 3: Contemporary Art to Present DayAbstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Contemporary Art, Performance Art, Video Art
Resources Needed:Students will receive a link to a digital timeline of notes and images for reference, but they are encouraged to take notes in their preferred manner to create a permanent record of the images and information discussed. Please note that the digital link will be deactivated after the course concludes.
